Celebrating the annual celestial event of the
Summer Solstice
Which marks the changing of the seasons
when night is the shortest
and days are their longest.
Thus summer begins
with the ending of spring.
Come celebrate this time
with drumming and singing and dancing
around our Sacred Fire!
This is a time to worship the sun god Helios.
A time when our tiny ceremonial fires
should remind us
of the greater heat yet to come.
As we build our flames slowly higher
during the night:
we should
drink pure cool water,
sweat,
and play with the water;
thinking that
each day from now
will slowly become hotter
than the previous.
We should
prepare our minds
for this reality.
Make plans and preparations.
This begins a good time to worship the
ocean god Neptune Poseidon, to swim
near the beachy shores, where Earth and
Sea and Sky all come together in beautiful
peaceful harmonic bliss.
Many people should give thanks to Hephaestus Vulcan,
for his gift of technology,
that enables them to have air conditioning.
I like to thank the rain and rivers and waters
that give me my swimming pools and cool showers.
I thank the goddess for the mangoes.
In Florida,
this time also especially marks the
end of the tourist season
and the begining of the mosquito season.
Lemons and oranges help with that.
